On the car ride home from school i wondered about the enigma which is sports... When i think of sports i think of a fun past time in which those who enjoy it can spend quality time with one another enjoying something they love. But then i see this...
and this...
Oh and don't forget this lovely clip!
10 people injured and 50 arrested.... really people? Since when did sports become as violent as social movements! I just don't get the fanaticism, i mean i enjoy playing sports (some at least) but i get bored watching them, and i will by no means go out and light a fire downtown because my favorite basketball team won the NBA championship.
Anyway society's first problem is that they are too obsessed with sports. My second problem with society is its focus on trivial and unproductive things. I looked up google's top searched topics... it started with a wonderful #1 Whitney Houston!
Don't get me wrong, i respect Whitney for her talent and abilities (though i don't love her music) and i would encourage her death to be known, but really #1 most researched topic on google! Not that big of a deal Whitney, sorry...
Now number 2 really got my respect for society going! Gangnam style! Which i had to look up how to spell... really, that is such a terrible song, its excitement lasted a whole of 4 minutes (the length of the song). After which i never cared to hear it again.
Finally at 3rd we have Hurricane Sandy (beaten by a Pervy Korean), so it takes about 110 deaths and more then $50 billion dollars in damage for us to look up something relating to current events and our world.
Next we got the Ipad 3 and Diable 3, Gotta love our electrons for which we can spend hours gaming and listening to Gangnam style!
Down from that we get Kate Middleton (i guess that related to world topics(rolls eyes)), The olympics (we must prove our omnipotence over other countries by playing sports), and then Amanda todd... which i will say is something good to be aware off... at least we can realize people do need help.
Finally we have Michael Clarke Duncan (some actor) and BBB12... Which wikipedia tells me is some Brazilian television show... oh yes so important to know world, so very important.
Now i know in the end these things aren't solid proof, people can get information from places other than Google and sports riots have never hurt as many people as Social Movements (as a whole), but it is true that these things fill the lives of many people, the fill places where greatness could shine through if they weren't so ignorant. Now how about we spend five minutes every day not thinking about trivial things? How about we spend five minutes doing something to further our knowledge and talents, and if those five minutes start to seem like not enough time to improve yourself. Then by all means take more time! Only you can hold back yourself, because only you can control yourself. A quote well worn but true all the same.
